A phone conversation about a past relationship, where the two lovers try to make sense of what was left unsaid between them offers a glimpse into what it feels like to not belong in your country of refuge and the emotional implications that are triggered from that.
Students make films by the book, more often than not on a given theme. Letiția Popa managed something infinitely more difficult: a documentary about her inability to do her homework. Because the requirement – “make a film about refugees” – although generic in the festival circuit of privilege, gave her unwanted power; her, of all people, the partner of a refugee. Later, after the relationship ended abruptly, the filmmaker asked for a second chance for the film and reconciliation. Alongst an emotional “how are you?” on the phone, the limitless images of the outside world slow down in counter-time with the words always spoken too hastily. (Călin Boto, BIEFF 2022)
